New Air Corps Pins

These pins are made of ultra-light material to go anywhere.  They are hand-painted to look like metal.  This series has silver and copper rivets and the next series will have silver zeppelins.  Signed by the artist on the back of each pin. Each pin will be packaged individually this is just to give you a good look at the items for size comparison and colour. Let me know what you think.   The wings have 2 stick pins to keep it properly balanced and the others are all have a single tie tack pin.

Air Corps Pin Design

Here is a work in progress of an air corps. pin design.  Made up of 12 separate parts. The toonie is for size comparison.  I can make them as requested though they do take some time.  This is after assembly but before painting.  I will post pictures of the finished project soon.

New Steampunk Gentleman and Security

This will be one of the last in the series of steampunk gentlemen. There may be another steampunk lady in the works. I wanted to have these done a while ago but life got in the way.  I have a number of sketches that I have already posted that are going to be started soon.   I also have a group of new  drawings from my idea book that I am working on as well.

The image is of my Steampunk Security Guard.  I hope you like him.  He is meant to be tough and protective.

Mr. and Mrs. Gear

Introducing Sir Reginald Gear and Lady Penelope Gear. They will be turned into black and white buttons as you see, and also hand painted buttons.  They will also be made into full size paintings. I am looking into turning them into t-shirts as well.  They will be available along with my regular supply of artworks at the HAMILTON ART MARKET every Saturday this summer from June 30. Come and see me there.

Finally, 2 eyed steampunk gentleman

This robot gent looks a little forlorn.  I wonder what he is thinking about.

Newest painting -- will be posting the finished painting with the final frame around him soon.
Keep watching.

Royal Steam Corps -- Gripping Adventures

Reuse.  I wasn't going to let all this go to waste.  This time I spent about 12 hours working on adjusting all the line thicknesses and positioning. The zeppelins were very small -- had to do a lot of surgery but it was worth it.  I like the results.

Sparky Flyer, Final without words

This is the final Sparky Flyer without words. This will be available as a large print and in 8 1/2 by 11 sizes. The next stage is to choose the font for the words and add them to the project. If you wish to see the development of the piece, check out the previous posts below.

Sparky Flyer Colourwork

I changed the name to the Sparky Flyer because I intend to put words on the picture and find the Y is more artistic in many typefaces than the I and adds more visual interest. This picture is the image without the lines and shows how much colourwork, shadow and details that I used in its making. I paint with shape and colour using illustrator because I find it more graphic and precise.

Steampowered Airship Buttons

Here is a sample of one of 12 pins that I did from the background of the Sparky Flyer. I liked them so much that I had to find another place for them. The pins will have the same ships but with different arrangements and backgrounds. The pins will be about the size of a business card and suitable for wearing on a lapel or pocket.

Sparkie Flier black & white

Here is the final black and white line drawing before I start adding the colour. I have changed the line colours to black. I combined the airship and pilot into one level. I also did a few tweeks so you can compare it to the previous drawing below. I also designed some airships for the background.

Sparkie flier under development

Here is one of the stages of development of the drawing for Sparkie's Flier. When I make a drawing I try to build it up from shapes that look like they might actually work. Rather than making a flat drawing I make it up of 3-dimensional appearing shapes. I also do this with my characters to bring more depth and weight to the drawings. All done in illustrator with a mouse. More changes do take place as I add the pilot.

Grimoire Boy in colour

Here is the completed image in colour. It is sort of a tribute to H.P. Lovecraft with a steampunk twist.

I plan to make copies and sell them as a limited numbered edition

Here is a closeup of the boy just so you can see how much work went into the illustration. It is my most complicated yet. I am learning lots of shortcuts, but it still takes some time to complete.

Steampunk Surfer

Another coffee shop brainchild from my Lady, on the Hawaii theme still. My steampunk surfer. When finished it will be captioned " I say, Kowabunga dude." A British gentleman on a steam powered surfboard. Britannia rules the sea.

Steampowered Flyer

Here's another sketch from my sketchbook. A small flying steampowered balloon.
A small fighter-craft with a female pilot. Dedicated to my Lady, this is the Sparkie Flyer.

Grimoire Boy

The original sketch was done in April, 2011 and previously posted online as a scan from my sketchbook. The original drawing was about 2 by 3 inches in size. It was scanned and cleaned up inside the computer using illustrator 8 and the mouse. Eventually it will be in colour. It is sort of a tribute to H.P. Lovecraft with a steampunk twist.

I plan to make copies and sell them as a limited numbered edition, in a larger size with print on the front stating: "Children should not be allowed to take the grimoire out of the library."
